Entry into Jerusalem: meek king on a colt
As for his entry into Jerusalem — the capital of Judea and the seat of its rulers, where God’s temple stood — the prophet Isaiah said: ‘Say to the daughter of Zion: Behold, your King comes to you’ (Isa 62:11; Mt 21:5); and Zechariah: ‘He is meek and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.’ (Zech 9:9)
Thus he made his entry into Jerusalem, mounted on a donkey’s foal, on which the people had spread their garments and on which they had seated him. (Mt 21:7-8; Jn 12:14-15) And it is Jerusalem that the prophet calls the daughter of Zion.
