Father’s will in the passion: Psalm 89
And the same prophet says again concerning Christ’s passion: ‘You have cast us off and scorned us, and you have rejected your Christ. You have broken the covenant of your servant; you have defiled his holiness to the ground. You have overthrown all his walls and shaken all his strongholds. Those who passed by the way have stripped him; he has become the reproach of his neighbors. You have raised the right hand of his oppressors; you have made his enemies rejoice over him. You have turned back the help of his sword and have not aided him in battle. You have deprived him of his splendor and cast his throne to the ground. You have shortened the days of his life and overwhelmed him with shame.’ (Ps 89:38-45)
That the Christ was to suffer these things by his Father’s will, the prophet has declared openly; for it was upon the will of his Father that the Christ was to endure his passion. (Mt 26:39; Acts 2:23; Isa 53:10)
