Demonstration of the Apostolic Preaching · §88

New covenant written on hearts

Jeremiah announces the new covenant: ‘Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, not like the covenant I made with their fathers… I will put my law in their mind and write it on their heart, and I will be their God and they shall be my people… for I will forgive their iniquities and remember their sins no more.’ (Jer 31:31-34; Heb 8:8-12)

This new covenant is the gospel of freedom, in which we serve God not on stone tablets but by the Spirit written in the heart. (2 Cor 3:3-6)
