The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, however, was not given so as to provide separate remedies of forgiveness for separate sins, as for separate wounds, and to pardon different sins through different baptisms. Rather, by the power of its supremely effective medicine, applied to crimes—that is, the works of an evil will—it gives comprehensive help, wiping away different kinds of guilt by the power of a single consecration.
