But if all these things remain in the order they receive from nature, while the will is attracted to faith by exhortations, signs, examples, and the promise of rewards or punishments, without necessity being imposed; if the will is healed through teachings, mysteries, and gifts—not crushed, but awaited, free, and invited—then it is clear that each person’s will, not birth, was stained by imitation of sin, even if the whole world with one breath roars or rages in opposition.
