To Florus 2.167
Then, when we see the promises of the Testaments being fulfilled, we count absolutely all the good and evil things of present life among trifles. We judge the trustworthiness of God’s promise from the greatness of his love toward us. The disappointment of eternal benefits will not refute our hope, because we hold God’s love as a guarantor of future blessedness. It ‘has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us’ (Romans 5:5): that is, through the Holy Spirit’s gifts God has proved his love for the human race.
