To Florus 2.209
The apostle does not lie. Therefore Christ’s grace abounded to more people than Adam’s fault. Those who sinned under the law are said to have sinned in imitation of that fault; and until Christ, only the Jews sinned under the law. Compare, then, the Jewish nation alone—and only its adults—placed under the law and therefore sinning in the likeness of Adam’s transgression, since he sinned after receiving a law, with the thousands saved by grace’s generosity from the multitude of Gentile nations called through the preaching of the Gospel. Then you will understand that the apostle Paul truly declared that God’s grace and Jesus Christ’s gift reached more people than did participation in the ancient transgression (compare Romans 5:14–15).
