—if, I say, the first man’s wickedness inflicted all this on God’s image, Christ’s grace is plainly very weak in its gifts, since it has found nothing to remedy so many massive evils. Or if it has found a remedy, state it. Let us now compare each point individually. If Adam overturned the institutions of nature itself, beyond the acts of his will, Christ should above all have repaired what Adam had shattered, following the very tracks along which Adam had destroyed it.
