Look at the light, the crowd of pronouncements, the dignity of judgments that your inherited sin is unafraid to insult and tries to overrule! Here there is no doubt you will not be ashamed to say what seems the only remaining reply: the prophet’s pronouncement—or rather God’s through the prophet—is true, and the reasoning of wise people is invincible, teaching that charging children with their parents’ sins is utterly unjust.
