Julian quotation

Against Julian 6.19.61

Everything belonging to this class can be demonstrated by this one example. If someone has sacrificed to idols once, he can be burdened by the impiety of what he has done until he obtains forgiveness: the act has ended, but its guilt remains. But it is absolutely impossible for the act to remain and the guilt to depart—that is, for him to go on sacrificing to demons and yet be regarded as free from profanation.
