Commentary on John, Book 32 · §17

Jesus was troubled in spirit: one of you will betray me

Having said this, Jesus was troubled in spirit and testified, “Truly, truly, I say to you that one of you will betray me.”

The troubling of spirit is sympathy and disclosure of what is coming.
