The historical shape: the Bride — church or soul — prays that the Word present give kisses of teaching; she says the breasts of grace are better than the wine of the letter; Christ’s name, ointment poured out, gathers the young women; drawn, they run; they are brought into the chambers of the mysteries; at last equity loves perfectly. This is the historical line of the First Book.
