Christ sanctified with us as man; law holy; cloud fills tent = Church light
Cyril: …for all the others giver and fellow-giver of sanctification, as God, to God and Father, is sanctified with us according to the human; and this is the so-called emptying. For the one holy according to nature as God is said to have needed the God who sanctifies; and blessed Peter says this: ‘Jesus the from Nazareth, how God anointed him with holy Spirit.’ So then the anointing is about the human, and the sanctification of the flesh, which is not holy according to nature, but as in participation from God; for to creatures sanctification is from outside, and by adoption they are enriched with the grace from God. And together with the others the altar of the worship according to law is also anointed. For the law also is holy, calling unto knowledge of the God by nature, and putting understanding of righteousness into those hearing, and carrying those pedagogued unto beginnings of goodness; ‘For beginning,’ he says, ‘of a good road is to do the righteous things.’ And somewhere all-divine Paul also writes, ‘So then the law is holy, and the command holy, and righteous and good.’ And Holy of holies is the law, not according at least to the shadow, but because if it should be turned unto the spiritual contemplation, the types have cried out for us Christ himself, the Holy of holies truly; for he sanctifies as God, anointing with his own Spirit those who have come to be in participation of him through the faith. And with the holy tent having been raised, and indeed also anointed with the holy oil, let us say what is after this, if it seems good.
Palladius: Entirely so.
Cyril: So then it has been written thus: ‘And Moses finished all the works, and the cloud covered the tent of the testimony, and the tent was filled of glory of Lord. And Moses was not able to enter into the tent of the testimony, because the cloud was overshadowing upon it, and the tent was filled of glory of Lord. And when it went up from the tent, the sons of Israel were striking camp with their baggage; and if the cloud did not go up, they were not striking camp until the day on which the cloud went up; for a cloud was upon the tent by day, and fire was upon it by night, opposite all Israel, in all their camp-strikings.’ For when the holy and more true tent has been shown in the world—that is, the Church from nations—light of Christ was flashing around, and the cloud as some spiritual dew enriching us richly with the things from above fills the divine temple. Yet, Moses was not able, he says, to enter, for Israel has not stepped in, not being able to bear the strike of the divine light, since indeed he has neither understood the mystery of Christ, nor accepted the illumination in spirit, nor seen with the eyes of the mind the glory of Lord, with whom also as in a type of a cloud, when he departs from the world and walks toward the things above, we depart together going according to the Master’s track—for he has inaugurated for us the fresh and living way, the one unto the things above I mean and in heaven—and when he rests as it were
