Gibeonite hypocrisy; whole love; Book 6 Amen
what is according to pleasure for themselves, or a fear of danger, and a wild approach of ill-day, as it were bewitching, to seem to have come forward to the faith, in order that they may have many who have chosen to contend together, and to lend their own care. Yet a last care will be distributed to such ones, and the lot in the ones most especially cast down; and most dishonored and thrown-away and scarcely gaining the being counted worthy of life, they would be caught when God tests the things hidden in us—such as were those from Gibeon. For they once approached Joshua, and were very much begging to be made intimate with the people of God; yet they were not making the running-toward without evil-working, nor indeed simple and unadulterated, and as from love toward God, but in play-acting and deceit. And they escaped notice at the beginnings. But when being caught doing bitter things, and having been found out both ill-minded and many-judgmented, they were being set in the last things. For they have become both wood-cutters and water-carriers for all the Synagogue. Do you see then where the not-genuine will bring down, and the not having chosen to honor from a healthy understanding the spiritual intimacy toward holy ones. For sometimes some deceive—and I do not say the Christ who knows all, but rather those in his type, that is, those leading peoples. Just as indeed also those ones then brought Joshua into an image and under-type of Christ, and they drive in with deceit of shadowings, in depth of reasonings, and holding forward the play-acting of the wickedness unto mind; yet being condemned—for it is not possible to escape notice—they will be saved scarcely, having the slave-fitting and last portion; for of an unfree judgment, deceit is fruit. Yet we, for whom the aiming is to think healthily the things of God and the remaining things are unspelled, will cling to our own Master and God of the wholes, from a simple heart, from a right understanding, from a whole love, not enduring the double-souled to be sick, yet standing off altogether from Greek habits and thoughts, and going as farthest and very swiftly from the things having been condemned from law. For thus we will be perfect opposite the Lord God, according as it has been written, and bright, and well-approved with the other holy ones in Christ, through whom and with whom to the Father glory with Holy Spirit unto the ages of the ages. Amen.
