Bethlehem of Judah: birthplace of David’s son
In turn the prophet Micah indicates where the Christ will be born — that is, in Bethlehem of Judah. Here are his words: ‘And you, Bethlehem of Judah, are not the least among the principalities of Judah; for from you shall come forth a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.’ (Mic 5:2; Mt 2:5-6)
Bethlehem is the city of David. So it is shown that the Christ is son of David not only through the Virgin who bore him, but also by the fact that he was born in Bethlehem, David’s city. (Lk 2:4-7; Jn 7:42)
