Who shall declare his generation? Fear his origin
If the prophet then cries: ‘Who shall declare his generation?’ (Isa 53:8), it is lest, witnessing the hatred of his enemies and the sufferings of his passion, we should come to despise him as a vile and abject human being; it is to work our conversion.
He who has borne all this possesses an unutterable generation, because the prophet calls generation his origin — that is, his Father, who is unutterable and ineffable. (Mt 11:27; Jn 1:18) Recognize, then, that such precisely is the origin of him who endured these sufferings. Do not despise him because of the torments he endured on purpose for you; but fear him because of his origin. (Phil 2:6-11)
