This majestic virtue, which settles the account of what each person deserves, flashes forth in the works of God's image, the human soul (compare Genesis 1:26–27), according to the measure and strength of the creature. In God himself, however, the Creator of all things out of nothing, it shines eternally in a boundless, brilliant sphere. Its origin is divinity; its age is eternity, an eternity that knows neither an ending in the future nor a beginning in the past. Thus its genus, by which term I mean nothing other than its origin, is God; its species appears in the proclamation of laws and the effects of judgments.
