After this reply, he tries to wash away another point on which I had struck him. For after asking about infants’ will, I continued: “But you deny this”—that is, that a sinful will is present in newborn people—“and nevertheless say infants are under the devil. Nor do you conceal why you think they live under his power. You say, ‘Because they are born from the union of the two sexes, they are under the hostile power.’” The testimony of his own words therefore made it plain that he claims infants for the demon because they were born from the union of the two sexes. Through this I showed that he had enslaved marriage to the devil, although God instituted it and it cannot exist without union.
