To Florus 4.106

He now puts this before himself, beginning with my question: “So you say,” he writes, “that they are under the devil because they are born from the union of the two sexes?” Let us hear what explanation he gives. “I certainly say,” he replies, “that they are under the devil because of an offense. They are not free of the offense because they were born from that union which cannot perform even what is honorable without shameful lust. Ambrose, of most blessed memory, also said this” (Augustine, On Marriage and Concupiscence 2.5.15). What disastrous perversity in the man! What an unspeakable intention! What shameful falsehood!
