Kings never thought Jerusalem enterable; demons as kings
Perhaps both through the strength of the places and of the wall and the strength of the inhabitants, and especially through God who was always shielding the city. And yet before Nebuchadnezzar the Egyptian, having entered, many times took the treasures from the Lord’s house, but not having sacked the city; for he was not pressing very hard, even if he was an enemy—toward it not being inconsistent for the paradoxical thing to come about even twice and thrice. And he would also mean kings of the earth as the demons who ruled the earthy ones, about whom it has been said: “all the kings of the earth stood by and their rulers were gathered together against the Lord and against his Christ.” About who these are, “for if they had known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory” made clear, and “so that the many-colored wisdom of God may be made known to the rulers and the authorities in the heavenlies through the church”; for they were thinking Jerusalem not to be handed over unto the end, thinking the promise toward the fathers as far as this nation, knowing nothing about Christ.
