Daughter Zion’s beauty gone; rulers like rams without pasture

The things of the wording, as far as power is ours, must be clarified, as we examine who the daughter of Zion is, and in what she has the comeliness, and what the pasture is which the rulers of the daughter of Zion do not have—like rams at a loss for grazing—and how these, deprived of strength, walk before the face of the pursuer. And we hold that the mountain Zion is mother of the synagogue in it, the synagogue being named daughter of Zion; and the comeliness of the daughter of Zion the possession in her robes, which possession, taken by the enemies in the time of the plundering, went out from those of whom it was adornment—that is, was carried out (for more emphatically he named this with “went out”); and the leaders of the synagogue, because the enemies were pressing and taking captive, being at a loss for the customary things, have been likened to rams not finding food. Just as rams driven without having been fed walk weakly, yielding to the necessity of those pursuing, so also the rulers, having become captives, being led away into the country of those who took them captive, were walking not in strength before the sight of the pursuer.
