Wall and rampart mourn; angels grieve a fallen soul
And wall and rampart mourn—things worthy of mourning, becoming causes of weeping also for those who see; for “who will scatter the counsel of the Lord? and who will turn back his high hand?” according to blessed Isaiah. And for such a city or soul mourning so as to be a trampling for the enemies, it is likely that angels mourn—those who formerly were guarding her, others upon others, both greater and subordinate. For if they rejoice over those saved, how will they not mourn over those who have fallen?
