Kidneys as desire; song of mockery; bitter ministry
And kidneys in the scripture are the desirous part, and arrows the darts. And thereafter they were tearing me down as a liar, having made me a song. And formerly he was also saying: “I was sitting alone, because I was filled with bitterness” and what follows; for he was petitioning for them, and they were plotting, and yet it was not possible to decline the ministry. He was being embittered, then, both suffering from them and suffering-with those suffering and being weighed down beyond measure at those being impious.

Νεφροὶ δὲ ἐν τῇ γραφῇ τὸ ἐπιθυμητικόν, ἰοὶ δὲ τὰ βέλη. καί με λοιπὸν ὡς ψεύστην διέσυρον ᾠδήν με ποιήσαντες. καὶ φθάσας δὲ ἔλεγε· «κατὰ μόνας ἐκαθήμην, ὅτι πικρίας ἐνεπλήσθην‘ καὶ τὰ ἐξῆς· ὁ μὲν γὰρ ἐδεῖτο ὑπὲρ αὐτῶν, οἱ οἱ ἐπεβούλευον , καὶ ὅμως τὴν διακονίαν οὐκ ἦν παραιτήσασθαι. ἐπικραίνετο τοίνυν καὶ πάσχων ὑπ' αὐτῶν καὶ πάσχουσι συναλγῶν καὶ ἀσεβοῦσιν ὑπεραχθόμενος.
