Priest prices by strength; honor from just toils; keep vows
Cyril: …toward the strengthless and inactive, would not become somehow in much good-fruiting, just as indeed also the aging of the plants, of their root being made-old, hesitating appear toward the of ripe things casting-out. So then the just truly and pity-loving God, analogously to the of each eagernesses, and to the according to mind fitness, receives the fruits, neither the strengthless and having-aged-out, outside of a word setting, and sending-away as inactive, nor indeed unrewarded the well-strong letting-go, widening as it were for those willing the to well-repute, according to which manner each should have. And those at least the habit more-weak, and perhaps somehow also little-minded, himself will have, the fruit-bearing measuring-upon for each the according to strength. For this, I think, is the, ‘He will stand opposite the priest, and the priest will price him, according as is strong the hand of the one having vowed.’ (Leviticus 27:8)
Palladius: How thin the word!
Cyril: So then one must bring-up then, O Palladius, for God, just as a smell of sweet-fragrance, and of debts in a rank, a citizenship holy-fitting, and of the exceptional life the boasts. And of one of the holy ones having written you learned-through, ‘Honor the Lord from your just toils, and firstfruit for him from your fruits of righteousness.’ (Proverbs 3:9) For with ox-sacrifices on the one hand those of old and with frankincenses were thinking to honor; for of a citizenship this of the according to law way; and we thereafter those in Christ through faith, the better and more-preferable going path, the in spirit and truth worship we will dedicate-up for God, (John 4:23) all on the one hand as it were shaking a rope, unto at least the to be able nobly to complete what things were needing, and with dedications the spiritual and sacred to honor-down God. For I say myself to have remembered needing of one saying clearly through the all-wise Moses, ‘The things going-out through your lips you will guard,’ (Deuteronomy 23:23) that is, what ever you should vow, to complete urge and very swiftly. For a matter in these the delaying not unharmful.
Palladius: Truly.
Cyril: And indeed of the good-art the well-natured aim, of the upon at least the needing to complete vows and confessions, one would learn not from elsewhere unerringly, except that through the law. For it has been written, that ‘A lamp for my feet your law, and a light for my paths.’ (Psalm 119:105) Or for are we not with a law the divine being light-led, and a road both right and unerring would someone run-through, a lamp as it were some the from there having rays?
Palladius: For how not? For somewhere also psalms the all-divine David: ‘The command of Lord far-shining, enlightening eyes.’ (Psalm 19:8)
Cyril: In what then therefore manner will we well-repute, the well-famed and all-holy living-through life, and a bright dedication for God, the of the extreme fairness apportioning manners, you will know indeed and very clearly, also through other for us oracles of God enjoining.
