Lord of the harvest sends apostles; confess before the Father; come to me

He knows that the Lord of the harvest is the God of all: the intelligible threshing floor — that is, humanity — is his, and the harvest is his. Yet see: having ordered them to pray the Lord of the harvest, he immediately showed that he himself is that Lord, sending out the laborers — the holy apostles — and giving them authority over unclean spirits as God. For it is not within the measures of humanity to give anyone the working of the Holy Spirit; yet Christ has given it. How, then, is he not God by nature and in truth, even though the Word has become flesh?

“Everyone who confesses me before humans, I also will confess before my Father in heaven; and whoever denies me before humans, I also will deny before my Father in heaven.” Many of the saints have been called to the glory of martyrdom and perfected through sufferings and death, confessing Christ. Were they crowned for insisting he is a common human, or rather for honoring him as God in their confessions? The answer is clear. Those who denied this also slipped from the glory of martyrdom, and on the day of judgment they will find Christ himself denying them. How, then, is he not God — the one who crowns with martyrdom’s glory those who truly confess that he is this?

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you.” If Emmanuel is not truly God, how does he lay his own yoke on us?
