Demonstration of the Apostolic Preaching · §78

Descent to the dead: Holy One remembers those who slept

In Jeremiah one finds the prediction of Jesus’ death and of his descent to the dead: ‘And the Lord, the Holy One of Israel, remembered his dead, those who were already sleeping in the bosom of the earth, and he went down to them to announce his salvation and to deliver them.’ (1 Pet 3:18-19; 1 Pet 4:6; Eph 4:9)

The cause of his death is indicated: his descent to the dead was the salvation of those who had passed away.
