I am the Lord who brought you out of Egypt§1

1 I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt. Not only to the fathers — to you, if you leave the Egypt of the vices. This present age is Egypt in figure.

Ego sum Dominus Deus tuus qui eduxi te de terra Aegypti. Non solum patribus, sed tibi si exis de Aegypto vitiorum. Praesens saeculum Aegyptus figuraliter.

No other gods§2

2 You shall have no other gods besides me. There are many gods and many lords; for us one God the Father and one Lord Jesus. An idol is whatever you love above God.

Non erunt tibi dii alii praeter me. Multi dii et domini in mundo; nobis unus Deus Pater et unus Dominus Iesus. Idolum — quidquid amas supra Deum.

Do not make a graven image§3

3 You shall not make for yourself a graven image. The invisible God is not to be fashioned in matter. The true image is Christ; be conformed to his image.

Do not bow down to them§4

4 You shall not bow down to them nor worship them. Fashioning is one thing; worship another. Even without a statue the mind can serve idols.

A jealous God§5

5 I am a jealous God. Divine jealousy is the Bridegroom’s love. He visits fathers’ iniquity and shows mercy to those who love him — not cruelty, but covenant care.

6 You shall not take the Lord’s name in vain. Remember the sabbath day. A vain name is holy on the lips and foreign in the life. Sabbath is ceasing evil works to do the work of God. Amen.
