A staff in the hand
And so that we may see the likeness of the law to the gospel, we shall set beside the things said according to the law also things from the gospel. Moses, about to lead the people out of Egypt in order to bring them into the holy land, receiving commandments of God, is commanded not to have a shoe. And the apostles, being sent to lead the people from the nations out of intelligible Egypt, are commanded not to take a staff for the road, nor a bag, nor to have sandals bound on.

Ἵνα δὲ τὴν ὁμοιότ[η]τα τοῦ νόμου τὴν πρὸς τὸ εὐ[α]γγέλιον ἴδωμεν, τὰ νομ[ίμ]ως εἰρημένα καὶ ἐξ εὐαγγε[λι]κῶν παραθησόμεθα. Μω[ϋσ]ῆς τὸν λαὸν μέλλων ἐξ[αγα]γεῖν ἐξ Αἰγύπτου, ἵνα εἰς τὴ[ν ἁ]γίαν γῆν εἰσάξῃ ἐντολὰς θ(εο)ῦ λαμβάνων, κελεύεται ὑπόδημα μὴ ἔχειν, καὶ οἱ ἀπόστολοι ἀποστελλόμενοι ἐξᾶξαι ἀπὸ τῆς <νοητῆς> Αἰγύπτου τὸν ἐξ ἐθνῶν λαὸν κελεύονται μὴ ῥάβδον α<ἴ>ρειν εἰς ὁδόν, μὴ πήραν μηδὲ σανδάλια ὑποδεδέσθαι.
