On Pascha · §1.80

Roast with fire, not raw, not boiled

Rightly then is the Holy Spirit called fire, which we must take up and then converse with the flesh of Christ — I mean the divine scriptures — so that through this spiritual fire we may roast them and eat them roasted with fire. For by such a fire the words will be changed, and we shall see what is sweet and nourishing in them, not boiling them with worse water.
