A defense of spiritual interpretation
we have found the sacred and lawful scriptures not keeping silent, but compelling us to the fulfillment of the commandments that came to be, being completed in us according to what was said: "Search the scriptures, in which you have life in them, and they bear witness about me."

εὕραμεν τὰς [ἱ]ερὰς καὶ ἐνθέσμους γραφὰς οὐ παρασιωπησά<ας> ἀλλὰ|| ἀναγκαζούσας ἡμᾶς τὴν περὶ τῶν γενομένων ἐντολῶν ἐκπλήρωσιν, εἰς ἡμᾶς ἐκτελουμένας κ[α]τὰ τὸ εἰρημένον· "Ζητεῖτ[ε] τὰς γραφὰς ἐν αἷς ζωὴν ἔχετε ἐν αὐταῖς κἀκεῖναι μαρ[τυρο]ῦσιν περὶ ἐμοῦ".
