Korah vs Aaron types Jewish rage; incense altar of pure gold begins
Cyril: …rising up against the divine laws, were bringing fire-pans—uncalled and going of themselves unto this, and snatching an honor not distributed to them—setting beside very warmly the things from mindlessness and boldness against the preeminent priest, and the one chosen out selectly from all the others. And through these was being sketched the coming mindlessness of the Jews against Christ. For he himself is our high priest, led unto this by a vote from the Father, and those of such shameful attempts have paid penalties; and after them Jews will also pay, having become liable to the equal charges. And God then said toward Moses the holy, and indeed also toward Eleazar, the priest from Aaron: ‘Take up the bronze fire-pans from the midst of the burned, and sow that alien fire there, because he consecrated the fire-pans of these sinners in their souls. And they made them beaten scales, a surround for the altar, because they were brought before the Lord, and were consecrated. And they became unto a sign for the sons of Israel.’ Thus then God said at that time. And in Exodus it has been written concerning Bezalel, who was from a father Uriah, and of the tribe of Dan, and leader of all good craft: ‘This one made the bronze altar from the bronze fire-pans, which were for the men who rebelled with the synagogue of Korah.’
Palladius: What then is this at least?
Cyril: It would have much benefit, if it should be understood that the ark has been made unto a type of Christ, and indeed also the others—lampstand, I mean, and the mercy-seat, and a table from gold—the people having brought forward and each having dedicated what was in hands. For those who bear fruit to Christ are very acceptable unto glory of God and Father, and bring forward spiritual gift-bearings, of which those were types and shadows. And the altar of the worship according to law, of the provocation and contradiction, and that I may say thus thereafter, of the uprising that has become against the great priest, is somehow signified as a reminder and fore-announcement lying in the construction itself, mystically and economically. Is the riddle clear for you? For Aaron is unto a type of Christ; and Jews also have contended with the glory of Christ, and for this reason the altar according to law is contradicted. For the worship as in shadows has ceased; and in Christ rather we make fragrant for the Father the intelligible good smell; and this again was typing under for us as in shadows, saying: ‘And you will make for me an altar of incense from unrotting woods, and you will make it of a cubit the length, and a cubit the breadth; square it will be, and of two cubits the height. From it will be its horns, and you will gild it with pure gold—its grate, and its walls in a circle, and its horns.’ And having added rods and rings and carriers for it, and other such things, and you will set it, he says, ‘Before the veil
