Matthew 11:3
John does not ask because he does not know him to be the Christ, or because he was about to go down into Hades, as some say — for he knew his passion. That is why he also named him Lamb. He asks so that, while he himself is still alive, he may persuade them, and they may not attach themselves to another teacher after his death.
