Do not walk behind your turnings-away
'Let each turn from his evil way, and make your practices better.' Sometimes the more simple say: Blessed are the older humans, because they heard the Lord through the prophet saying: 'And the Lord spoke to them.' And now the Lord says also to us through the things written: 'Let each turn from his evil way'; the Lord himself converses with you saying: 'And make your practices better.'
But these answered to whom the exhortative words about repentance were spoken, and let us see what they answered, that we too may not answer such things. What then answering do they say? 'We will take courage, that we will go behind our turnings-away, and each of us will do the pleasing things of his evil heart.' And if you do not say it in words, but your life is such as to sin, you also say by force through the evil deeds after the exhortative words: 'We will take courage…'
And what is 'we will go behind our turnings-away'? Those who began to put the hand to the plow and those being taught turned away from the base things. Whenever then someone putting the hand to the plow turns to the things behind, he will go 'behind his turnings-away'; for he will go behind those things from which he turned away, and he runs back upon those sins which he left. And of those hearing these things, whether catechumens who left the gentile life or faithful already advanced in stretching forward to the things ahead, if the life has become wretched, they say nothing other than: 'We will go behind our turnings-away, and each will do the pleasing things of his evil heart.' For there is an evil heart and there is a good heart. Therefore let no one go 'behind his turnings-away' nor do 'the pleasing things of his evil heart.'
'Therefore,' toward those answering these things, 'says the Lord: Ask now among the nations: Who has heard such fearful things which virgin Israel has done exceedingly?' If the church from the nations asks among the nations, it will be said: Hear what fearful things virgin Israel has done. For let us compare the life of those who sinned with the life of those who turned and believed, and we will know that those did fearful things, killing 'the Lord of glory,' but these turned to him who was killed and died by those for the sins of the world.

When they are, they will be marked at those homilies.
