The name of the Passover

And if one of our people, rather rashly, should meet with Hebrews and say that the Passover was so named because of the passion of the Savior, he will be laughed at by them as one who does not know at all what is signified by the name — if they should interpret the name of the Passover properly, as the perfect among the Hebrews do.

Καὶ εἴ τις προπετέστερον τῶν ἡμετέρων Ἑβραίοις συμβαλὼν λέγοι τὸ πάσχα διὰ τὸ πάθος τοῦ σ(ωτῆ)ρ(ο)ς οὕτως ὠνομάσθαι, καταγέλαστος ὑπ' αὐτῶν ἔσται ὡς ὅλως οὐκ ἐ||πιστάμενος τί τὸ σημαινόμε<νο>ν ἐκ τῆς ὀνομασίας, εἰ κυρίως ὡς Ἑβραῖοι οἱ τέλειοι τὸ τοῦ πάσχα ἑρμηνεύσαιεν ὄνομα.
