Matthew 26:23

We will not surely understand from this that none of the other disciples, but only Judas, dipped the morsel in the bowl with him. I think what was said has some such sense: he wants to say, as is likely, that the betrayer will be the one who dipped his hand with me in the bowl — that is, the fellow diner and table-mate, sharer and participant of table and of salt. For thus he also was accusing him through the voice of blessed David, saying, “But you, man of equal soul, who sweetened foods for me at the same table.” And again, “He who eats my bread has lifted up his heel against me.” John made this very point more clearly; for he said the Lord had said, “It is that one to whom I will give the morsel when I have dipped it.”
