Matthew 27:50
Something great and exceptional was accomplished for our souls through Christ. Since we have been justified through faith in God, and in him human nature was found enriched with faultlessness, he has opened something new for us: that souls released from bodies no longer run into Hades as before, but are rather sent into the hands of the living God. Knowing this, holy Stephen said, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” And another of the apostles writes, “So that those who suffer according to God’s will should also entrust their souls to a faithful Creator.”

∆ιὰ οὖν τὴν παρρησίαν τῆς παρθενίας αἰτοῦσιν ἀνοιγῆναι αὐταῖς. καὶ οὐκ ἀνοίγει, ὅτι κατὰ καιρὸν οὐκ ἐπεμελήσαντο αὑτῶν. καὶ τοῦτ' ἔστιν τὸ οὐκ οἶδα ὑμᾶς· τούτους γὰρ οἶδεν, οἵτινες οὐ μόνον πίστιν ἐνδείκνυνται, ἀλλὰ καὶ ἔργα ἔχουσιν· οἱ δὲ τῷ θατέρῳ πολιτευσάμενοι οὐδὲ ἐν γνώσει ποτὲ γεγόνασι τοῦ νυμφίου.
