Jeremiah the physician sued by the sick
That people then was sick; there were various diseases in the people who had called upon God. God sent them physicians, the prophets. One of the physicians was also Jeremiah; he convicted those who were sinning, wanting to turn those doing evil. But those who ought to have listened to what was said accused the prophet and accused him before judges like themselves. And the prophet was always in lawsuits under those who, as far as his prophecy went, were healed, yet through their own disobedience were not being healed. Upon these things he sometimes says: 'And I said: I will not speak nor name the Lord's name. And it became like a burning fire blazing in my bones, and I am undone on every side and cannot bear it.'
And sometimes he says, seeing himself always sued, abused, charged, falsely witnessed against: 'Woe is me, mother, as whom did you bear me?'—he said 'a man' not judging but 'being judged,' and not distinguishing but 'being distinguished throughout all the earth.' And since the sick did not listen to him counseling well and medically, he says: 'I did not benefit.' And since, when he was lending the spiritual silver, those to whom he spoke did not want to listen so as to be benefited from what they heard, he says: 'Nor did anyone owe me, nor did I owe.'

A second transcription of that same edition (First1KGreek TEI) was checked; where the TEI drops or garbles a line, the page image wins. This is a reading translation for study, not a new critical edition of the Greek. Homilies that survive only in Jerome’s Latin are not on this page yet. When they are, they will be marked at those homilies.
