Christ judged in every martyr
'As whom did you bear me, a man judged and examined in all the earth?' If you see the martyrs everywhere being judged and in each church standing before the judges, you will see how Jesus Christ is judged in each of the martyrs; for he himself is the one judged in those who bear witness to the truth. And you will be persuaded to accept this when you see that he does not say you are in prison when you are in prison, but himself; not you hungry when you are hungry, but himself; not you thirsty, but himself. 'I was in prison and you came to me.
I was hungry and you gave me to eat; I was thirsty and you gave me drink.' So even if a Christian is judged not for something else, not for his own sins, but because he is a Christian, it is Christ who is judged. In all the earth then Christ Jesus is judged; and as often as a Christian is judged, it is Christ who is judged—not only in these lawcourts, but take a Christian to be falsely accused and charged about something: then too Christ is judged unjustly. 'As whom did you bear me, a man judged and examined in all the earth?'

English follows Erich Klostermann, Origenes Werke III (GCS, 1901). A second transcription of that same edition (First1KGreek TEI) was checked; where the TEI drops or garbles a line, the page image wins. This is a reading translation for study, not a new critical edition of the Greek. Homilies that survive only in Jerome’s Latin are not on this page yet. When they are, they will be marked at those homilies.

- Homily 1.1 — The TEI omits Ἑβραῖον. English follows the GCS page image: Jonah is “a Hebrew prophet.”

- Homily 1.11 — The TEI/OCR of this line is garbled. English follows the GCS page image and the quoted verse: “I have sanctified you.”
- Homily 3.2 — The TEI gaps Matthew 5:45 (sun on the evil and [gap]; rain on [gap] and the unjust). English follows the Gospel wording.
