Beginning and first
And as it has been shown that of the first there must also be the beginning, he accordingly says here, because he is first, that he is also beginning: For I am, he says, the first and the last and the beginning and the end. For insofar as he is firstborn of all creation, he is first; and insofar as he is Wisdom, he is beginning. For so says Wisdom through Solomon, that "The Lord created me a beginning of his ways."
